The tales of Biafra would be incomplete without the legend Okoko Ndem. He was Okoko Ndem, the golden voice of Biafra dubbed Lord Haw-Haw by the Nigerian side. He was Radio Biafra and Radio Biafra was him. He was in charge of the media, Radio Biafra at the period of the Nigeria-Biafra war. He was known for the constant use of the term "onye Ndi iro gbara gburugburu na eche ndu ya nche mgbe niile" (Whoever that is surrounded by enemies guards his life all the time). He handled the Biafran propaganda perfectly, hence the No Victor no Vanquished Declaration by Gen. Yakubu Gowon
Okoko Ndem was not Igbo but he spoke Igbo with so much ease and eloquence. He hailed from Ikoneto in Odukpani LGA Cross-Rivers State. Okoko Ndem was in charge of Radio-Biafra from the period of the war till the end. He was a mystery, the Nigerian side didn't know where he broadcasted from but his voice was everywhere.
At the time when the spirit of the people was low, when it seemed like Biafra would come crumbling, his voice calmed our broken soul and gave us hope. His voice was magical. A soldier who heard his voice will neither dread the sound of artillery nor the rain of shrapnel.
He died on August 2003 and was buried on 29th of September 2003 being Igbo day. At his funeral were prominent men, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chekwas Okorie, Onwuka Kalu e.t.c
Okoko Ndem is on the same pedestal as any of the Biafran greats. He was legend beyond words.

Fact Of The Matter Is That Africans Themselves Have Never Named Themselves. Shaka Zulu Never Called Himself An African. He Was Not Even Aware What That Was. Even This Thing Of Calling Ourselves Nigerians. Zimbabweans. Congolese. South Africans. None Of That Existed Before White People. There Were No Countries In Africa. No Boarders. People Grouped Themselves According To The Language They Spoke. A Fact That Continues To Be True Today.

The Moroccan monarch is said to have offered rare earth materials—resources Nigeria does not currently possess—in exchange for Kanu’s freedom.

“I wish to write my name in the history books for standing up for Nnamdi Kanu—a man history will never forget,” King Mohammed VI said. “I want to be part of that history, to be remembered as the African king who stood for justice and truth when others kept silent.”

The King did not hold back his criticism of how Nigeria has treated the Igbo people, describing them as the “foundation that still holds Nigeria together.” He continued:

“Nigeria does not deserve the Igbos. They are the reason this country still stands, yet Nigeria fails to see that. Instead of honoring them, the nation punishes their courage.”

The Moroccan ruler emphasized that his call is not about politics but about justice, humanity, and African unity.

In a statement that has sparked widespread reactions, the Sultan of Sokoto has cautioned Yoruba elders and political leaders against provoking tensions with the Igbo people, reminding them of the resilience and strength the Igbos demonstrated during the Nigerian Civil Wâr ⚠️

According to the Sultan, it’s misleading to claim that Nigeria “won” the Biafra war purely by its own strength

“Let’s be truthful — Nigeria did not fight the Igbos alone. Britain, America, and five other world powers joined forces to suppress them,” the Sultan said. “On their own, no African nation could have defeated the Igbos in battle. These are people born to fịght and survive.”

The Sultan emphasized that the Igbos’ ability to sustain a full-scale war for nearly three years (1967–1970), despite international blockades and limited resources, remains unmatched in African history.

"No nation in Africa has ever held out for three years under such pressure and isolation,” he added. “That’s why it sounds almost laughable when anyone talks about going to war with the Igbos today. Even during the darkest days of the war, there were moments the world thought Biafra would win. They were that determined.”
